Overview:
Lofoten is the singular highlight of all of Norway . . . and possibly the most stunning place anywhere. It is off-the-charts in all respects. Lofoten is worth planning in some extra days and trying to time when sunny.
Highlights:
- Lofoten itself is one giant highlight . . . worth timing a trip to get sunny weather
- Exploring all the corners of Reinefjord
- Driving the inner arm of Selfjord
- Fjord vistas at Steinfjord, Flakstadpollen, Austnesfjord and many other spots
- One of any number of hikes on Moskenes
Hiking in Lofoten, Norway:
Get the local Lofoten Info-Guide to see numerours hikes on each of Austvagoy, Vestvagoy, Flakstadoy, Moskenes, and Vaeroy. Here are two interesting options:
Vinstad to Bunes - The most popular route on the Reinefjord ferry. Drop of at Vinstad. Take the one-hour walk through Vinstad, up and over the ridge, and down to Bunes beach. This is a beautiful, large beach, with cliffs on both sides.
Agvatnet - An especially good option if windy on island. Just before the tunnel into the final parking in A i Lofoten, head to the North into the Agvatnet lake valley. In the morning, this is a nice mirrored lake. Hike as far as you want along the lakeside.
Kayaking in Lofoten, Norway:
Lofoten can be extremely windy. Just about anywhere that good, safe conditions exist at a particular time is where o go kayaking. But do no push it without a guide, as the severe winds can ruin any kayak trip quite quickly.
Camping in Lofoten, Norway:
Camping on Lofoten aside the vertical mountains, with the Midnight Sun, is part of what makes this area special.. A i Lofoten at the very end of the island has a great open-cliff camping area with amazing views to nearby cliffs and to Vaeroy in the distance. Plenty of our other rough and campground spots offer similarly special experience.
Driving in Lofoten, Norway:
The drive across Lofoten has spectacular view after spectaculat view, with great spurs to Steinsfjord/Unnstad, Selfjord, Digermulen etc. Phenomenal viewpoints around the islands as well . . . most noteably of Flakstadpollen, which is a short walk off the main right at the hill-top just past Napp. In general . . . the goal of Lofoten is to get out of the car and explore the various wonders of the islands.
